At Ashburton Borough School we use Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) and wellbeing initiatives to strengthen relationships in school.

We intentionally design systems to develop relationships with whānau and the local community, and we provide opportunities for our teachers to partner for professional growth. All of these are designed to ensure equitable and excellent outcomes for all of our ākonga.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) initiatives strengthen relationships, address behaviour, improve children's well-being, remove barriers to engagement and increase educational achievement.

Ashburton Borough School is committed to preventing bullying and responding to hurt using restorative practices. Our whole school approach at ABS includes explicit teaching of expectations, social awareness, mindfulness and the Zones of Regulation.

To encourage the expected behaviours, teachers award mihi pai for those students who are showing our ‘Be Brave, Be Strong, Be Borough’ motto. These mihi pai are collected and celebrated at different milestones in various ways throughout the junior and senior school. We celebrate kindness at Ashburton Borough School, with our kindness cupcakes on a Friday. This celebrates those students who are being genuinely kind to those around them, going above and beyond the normal day to day interactions with their peers.
