ABS Borough and ABS Lagmhor

Ashburton Borough School was opened in 1872 and was for some time the only public school in the Ashburton County.  Ashburton Borough strives to maintain its traditions, while being at the forefront of education locally, regionally and nationally.

Being a Year 0-8 school this gives opportunity for our students to stay on at Borough for all their primary school years. The result - senior students play an integral part in the life and leadership of our school.

In 2001 Ashburton Borough School merged with Lagmhor School, ensuring the continuance of a rural school in a rural community, while offering opportunity to both students and staff of both sites. The combined schools are known as ABS Borough and ABS Lagmhor. The merged schools operate as one school on two sites.
ABS Lagmhor is our rural sitel nestled 9km inland from Tinwald. It is a satellite school of Ashburton Borough School. The site is made up of two classes, the junior classroom and the senior classroom. The School is currently staffed by two Ashburton Borough School Teachers and support staff. ABS Lagmhor visits our town site regularly for assemblies, sports events, special occasions, and for the students to foster links with their peers.

Both sites are very well supported by an active parent community who are involved in supporting the school in its many endeavours.
