Our local curriculum is the way that we bring the New Zealand Curriculum to life in our school, reflecting the context of our local community. Our ABS curriculum is designed to be personalised, integrated and forward thinking. We recognise that each student learns in different ways, and therefore, our approach to education tailors to their individual needs. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, setting goals, and actively participating in the construction of the curriculum and learning environment.
Integration is a key aspect of our curriculum. We organise our teaching around inquiry conceptual based themes that encompass various subjects, enabling students to make authentic connections between different areas of knowledge.
Research has shown that the most effective learning occurs when students can apply what they learn to real-life situations. We enhance all areas of the curriculum through specifically designed programs that incorporate Science, Technology, The Arts and Social Sciences, including Aotearoa New Zealand Histories.
