Year Report - 2010

2010 has been a very busy year for our Home and School Committee. We have held numerous events, participated in key school activities and purchased items for the school and students.
Highlights for me have been the first Triathlon, the 2 movie nights, Year 8 Dinner and working with an awesome group that is our Home and School committee.
We also established a working

relationship with our Board of Trustees’ which has meant that School, Board and Home and School have open lines of communication and we are all working together toward the same end, a better school environment for our Children.

2010 in brief review

Fundraising

Numerous Sausage Sizzles both on school and off school. This is great way to keep funds coming in – in total we raised over $700 from Sausage Sizzles in 2010.

Calendars – our big event for the year has been the calendars fundraiser. Disappointing that a new product - Diary, which proved very popular, was not able to be supplied causing us some administrative challenges. But we got there in the end – raising $1033.21

Key Events 2010

February 28th – Triathlon at Tinwald Domain. Very successful – 100 student participants and lots of feedback on how we can improve for 2011.

April 15th – When in Rome Movie Night. A movie for the Mum’s (and Dad’s) 75 tickets sold, held spot prizes for attendee’s. $477 raised.

June 18th – Shrek 4 Movie Night. Great event well supported by the school community, held at the Events Centre. $1150.90 raised.

27th November – Todd Cup celebration. Assisted with serving drinks, nibbles at the event.

December 14th - Year 8 Dinner. Catered by All Fed Up – great idea and a fantastic night. We also made the asset purchase of Table cloths at a cost of $226.35 for use at future events.

Final School Assembly and Prize Giving – We provide each class 2 gift certificates to be presented to children recognized for their efforts in Excellence and Diligence.

In School

Support of New Parents events – we supported many morning tea and evening presentations. We were also able to provide baby sitting service for Parent Education evenings, a vital event for parents to attend. Another initiative we have set up is Reading Folders for new enrolments that include reading material for new parents and a few goodies also.

Sports Shirts – Supported the purchase of School Rep sports shirts – donated $400 towards the cost.

Shade Sail - $3500 (approx). Peter May has also agreed to donate another sail to the school in exchange for some advertising space on the school ground. Will be great to be able to provide shade for our children.

Flag Pole Ordered - $180. This is to display the Enviro GreenGold flag that the school has been awarded. A prestigious award that deserved a mighty place to fly.

In the Class Room for 2010 we have set up Class Reps for each class room. This is a Home and School committee member that can act as liaison between parent, teacher and school. This will be reestablished for 2011. We also made a purchase of 2 Tonka Trucks and multiple Spades and Buckets for the Junior area to use in the Sandpit outside      Room 1.
We also attended one of the Student Council run Disco’s and sold Glow Sticks. These were hugely popular and we almost sold out. $303 raised.

Second Hand Uniform Sale – after gaining the support of the Board, The School and the Parents, we held our first Sale Hand Uniform Sale and it was a huge success. Many more planned.

I believe that 2010 was a very successful year for the Ashburton Borough Home and School Committee where we achieved a lot, faced change and succeeded to live up to our Mission Statement. I thoroughly look forward to 2011 being another highly productive year.
With sincere thanks to everyone that has contributed. We couldn’t have achieved it all with out you.
